Community Science

Community science (sometimes referred to as Citizen science) is basically crowdsourcing the use of amateur scientists to assist in scientific research. Engaging in community science is such a fun and great way to learn about a new topic and help generate valuable and useful data for research scientists at the same time. I have had a couple jobs as a citizen science coordinator for Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Denver Botanic Gardens creating and running programs for dark skies, iNaturalist, bat research, and plant identification. There are countless other arenas of community science you can try; like identifying galaxy shapes, counting or identifying animals in photographs, even aiding in protein folding research! If you are interested in becoming a volunteer for a community science project, check out these good websites for a start:

My iNaturalist page-kschnacke- its a little out of date I admit, I need to add some backlogged observations!
