Laboratories and Notebook
Lab Overviews
Part of science and AP biology are laboratory based experiments. All labs follow the scientific method and after taking AP biology you should be able to design an experiment, create an alternative and null hypothesis, identify appropriate variables and evaluate other labs for all of these components.
Here is a link to an overview of all the possible labs we could do in AP biology. While we will not have time for all these, we will do a good majority of them. The link also includes a description of the components of a lab you should be able to identify in a problem and design in your own labs.
Lab Notebook Info
As you design and conduct experiments in AP biology (and beyond!) you will need to document your ideas and data in a lab notebook. A laboratory notebook should be in a bound composition notebook and no pages should ever be torn out. Any mistakes or errors are simply crossed out with a single line.
Please use this document to gain a better idea of what your lab notebook should include.
I will collect the lab notebook three times throughout the year. Once after the first lab and once at the end of each semester. The first collection is meant to provide feedback and you earn a completion score. The second two collections I grade on attached rubric looking for completeness of the lab, accuracy of included information and interpretation of your data.
